Tofino / Ucluelet Fishing Report:
June 2006

First Week of Summer Hot Salmon action

June 28th, 2006

As we predicted, the first true week of summer provided some great saltwater fishing action for Chinook and Coho Salmon, as well as Halibut on the surrounding waters of Tofino B.C., on Vanvouver Island's west coast.

The offshore fishing action has been great, with most Chinook Salmon averaging 18-30 lbs, and most Halibut in the 15-40 lb range. A few hatchery marked Coho Salmon (legal for retention offshore) were caught up to 10 lbs.
The 24th was a fantastic day for Clayoquot Ventures guides and happy guests, as over 30 Chinook Salmon were hooked, along with over 40 Halibut between 3 boats fishing the same offshore area. Many of these fish were released to stay within legal limits of 2 Chinook and 2 Halibut per person.

The inshore Salmon action has been consistent as well, with numerous quality Chinook and Coho Salmon being caught in the protected waters near Tofino. On a recent saltwater fly fishing charter this week, our happy guests landed 5 Coho Salmon between 4-10 lbs. and 2 Chinook Salmon on the 8 wt. Fly rods, with one of these beauties over 20 lbs.
